"Broken system failing asylum seeking children!"

Updated: Jul 23, 2019

London Councils has published a report about supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children. The report includes findings from a survey of 26 London boroughs which found that the number of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) in London who are under 18 has increased by 17% and the number of former UASC care leavers aged 18 to 25 in London has increased by almost 50% over the last two years.

Recommendations include: the government should ensure that councils are properly funded to care for UASCs and the Home Office, Department for Education and the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government should work together with local councils to revive the National Transfer Scheme, which was created to share responsibility for caring for UASCs across the country.
